Blood Flow Restriction Exercise

Blood flow restriction (BFR) training is a relatively new but well researched and effective way to support muscle growth.

What is BFR?

BFR training requires the use of a specialized type of band that is put around your thigh or upper arm to limit the amount of blood flow out of your limb. Your muscles are still able to get blood flow via the arteries, but the band slows down how quickly the blood leaves your limb and changes the environment for the muscles and allows them to get more benefits and growth with less weight or resistance. Basically, BFR allows you to get greater muscle growth with less loads and less intensity.

Who would benefit from BFR?

BFR can be a great option to improve strengthening in people who are preparing for or recovering from surgery, experience a lot of pain with increased load, have osteoporosis, etc.
